Principal

Dear Muscoy Families, 

My name is Juan Ortiz, and I am honored to introduce myself as the new Principal of Muscoy Elementary School. With eleven years of experience in education—six years of teaching and five years in administration, I am thrilled to join the Muscoy community for the 2024-2025 school year.

My background includes extensive work with the AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) program, where I have served as a Scholar, Tutor, Teacher, and Coordinator. As a former English learner, I am deeply committed to providing equitable opportunities for all students, inspired by the teachers who supported my growth and motivated me throughout my educational journey.

Our goal at Muscoy Elementary remains clear: to foster each child's sense of well-being in a safe, caring, and welcoming environment. We believe in building positive relationships with our students, parents, and the broader community.

To support our students' growth, they will participate in daily social-emotional and PBiS social skills lessons, which help them develop essential life-long social competencies. We encourage positive choices by rewarding students with Mustang Motivators (M&M's) to purchase prizes in our student store. Additionally, we focus on developing AVID skills in our first through sixth grades, preparing our students for college readiness and success in a global society. Our Dual Immersion Program helps students become bilingual, biliterate, and bicultural in both Spanish and English. Over half of our staff are certified Gifted and Talented (GATE) Education teachers, trained to meet the needs of gifted and talented students.

We are excited to get to know all of you and look forward to working alongside our families to create a nurturing learning environment where our students develop self-confidence, perseverance, and a strong sense of belonging within the Muscoy community.
